I am a freelance locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine, formerly serving as a Clinical Director and a substantive NHS Consultant since 1996. I worked for three years as a Consultant trauma team leader at the major trauma centre at St Mary’s Hospital in London. I served as an air ambulance (HEMS) doctor for 11 years and served as a HEMS Clinical Director for three years. I hold a part time post in a major hospital in the Middle East.
I was awarded my PhD in Occupational Health for work on developing police body armour. I continue to work on personal safety and physical intervention programmes for mental health and custodial organisations. I have unique expertise in use of force matters.
I have worked on less lethal weaponry and Tasers. I serve on SACMILL, a Ministry of Defence Committee providing medical advice on less lethal weaponry.
I am leading a Master’s programme at Queen Mary University of London on safer care and custody.
I served as an advisor to the Department of Health on emergency planning and response.
I am competent in report preparation on personal injury, road traffic accidents, medical malpractice and negligence, pre-hospital and emergency care, aeromedical (air ambulance) care, victims of assault, criminal injury, death in custody, medical effects of Taser and in cases of injuries sustained during use of force in arrest and detention in custody or care.
