Gary is an experienced HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist with a breadth of clinical expertise in the areas of brain injury, long-term neurological conditions, amputees, major orthopaedic injuries as well as mental health conditions to include schizophrenia, personality disorder, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder as well as substance and alcohol abuse. He is a specialist practitioner in Vocational Rehabilitation and is a qualified Functional Capacity Evaluator. This role allows him to analyse work demands, work environments. It also allows him to understand transferable skills and vocational needs in various sectors. Gary has a sound understanding of UK legislation and implementing reasonable adjustments within the workplace. In addition, Gary is a calibrated Assessment of Motor and Processing Skills (AMPS) assessor.
Gary works for Jane James & Associates as an Independent Expert Witness taking instructions from both Claimants and Defendants for full care reports, aids and equipment reports and vocational rehabilitation reports. He also undertakes Immediate Needs Assessments (INAs) under the Rehabilitation Code. Gary is an Accredited Expert Witness through the Bond Solon/Cardiff University Expert Witness accreditation programme and has given evidence in Court on vocational matters.
He has spent several years working within litigation as an Independent Case Manager, undertaking Immediate Needs Assessments (INAs) for use in litigation and managing a large and varied caseload of individuals (both adults and children) with catastrophic injuries. He also continues to hold a caseload as a treating vocational occupational therapist. He has a particular interest in working with individuals with challenging behaviour following traumatic brain injury having worked at Headway Dorset as a specialist Occupational Therapist for five years.
He is a member of the College of Occupational Therapists specialist sections for Independent Practice and Neurological Practice and is a member of The Vocational Rehabilitation Association and The British Association of Brain Injury Case Managers (BABICM).
Prior to training as an occupational therapist Gary worked as a rehabilitation assistant, and served in the British Army for a period of twelve years. He brings a wealth of experience and transferable skills to his clinical practice.
