Professor Casey is Professor of Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, UCD and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. She has a vast experience in general Psychiatry and Mental Health issues, including Adjustment Disorders, Depression, Stress, Self harm and Suicide, Capacity Assessments and Psychiatric care for Obstetric and Gynaecology patients. With a particular interest and expertise in treating women who have developed mental health problems as a result of abortion. Professor Casey has medico-legal experience and has been involved in cases in Northern and Southern Ireland, Britain and the United States. She undertakes civil and criminal work, for both Defense and Prosecution in criminal cases, and for Plaintiff and Defendants in civil cases. Professor Casey is the author of 9 books and is the lead author of 'Psychiatry and the Law' she has contributed to 22 others. She is a regular contributor to the media and writes a weekly column for the Irish Independent daily newspaper.
