Dr Khalid El-Badawi has over 22 years experience working in the the NHS in different training posts and as a qualified cardiologist. His current position as Consultant Cardiologist at Medway Hospital involves covering in-reach service for cardiology, coronary angiography and out-patients clinic. He covers Coronary Care Unit and Cardiology wards rounds, cardiac pacing, angiography and elective primary PCI intervention. Dr El-Badawi has an excellent knowledge of general clinical Cardiology, with specialist interest in Interventional Cardiology. His capabilities are to identify appropriate patients for PCI, both elective or as an emergency. He has experience in planning a pre-, intra- and post procedural interventional patient management strategies with particular emphasis on adjunctive pharmacological therapy. Also arterial sites, haemostasis, minimising the risk of deterioration in renal functions or allergic reaction. Dr El-Badawi has acquired vast skills in the management of adverse reactions and intra-procedural complications. He has considerable experience in managing complex cases, including utilizing the technologies of IVUS, pressure wires, OCT, rotablation and laser atherectomy. His experience and training have made him capable of managing chest pains and acute coronary syndromes. With experience managing acute and chronic breathlessness, heart failure, cardiomyopathy and patients with valvular diseases, arrhythmias, syncope, hypertension and its causes, pericardial disease, adult congenital heart disease and diseases of the aorta. Also experienced in prevention and management of endocarditis, heart disease in pregnancy, care of patients following cardiac surgery and cardiac tumours. Dr El-Badawi is also involved in teaching and educational supervision. He is able to demonstrate his knowledge and skills to junior colleagues. Additionally, he undertakes continuous learning and keeps a healthy CPD record with the Royal College of Physicians. He fully understands the role of clinical governance, its context (risk management, evidence, audit and guidelines), implementation and its relevance to patients’ care.
