Richard Pyper has written over 1250 Expert Reports on Clinical Negligence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the last 32 years. He was a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust from 1992 to 2023. Richard qualified from Cambridge University in 1978. He commenced his career in O & G at the Middlesex Hospital but chose to doubly qualify by training in General Surgery and Urology at St Mary’s Hospital and obtained the FRCS (Ed).
He returned to train in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and has 46 years’ experience in the specialty. He also has 32 years’ experience as a NHS Consultant in O & G, having been appointed at Worthing & Southlands Hospitals in 1992.
Richard has an excellent knowledge of all aspects of the specialty but is now concentrating on Gynaecology with special interests in Urogynaecology, pelvic floor surgery, urinary incontinence and hysteroscopic surgery for menstrual problems.
He was instructed as a Single Joint Expert in the Liverpool Urogynaecology litigation and wrote 90 reports. Currently, many reports concerning vaginal mesh and mid-urethral tapes (TVT and TOT) are being prepared for both claimants and defendants.
