Dr Adam R. Winstock is a Consultant Addictions Psychiatrist at the South London & Maudsley NHS Trust & Honorary Senior Lecturer in Addictions at the National Addictions Centre at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London Honorary. He has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Addiction Medicine Specialist for over 15 years.
Dr Winstock is an expert in the areas of harm reduction, chem-sex, drug induced psychological effects, novel psychoactive drugs, the dark net, prescription drug misuse and has advised trading standards and the police on issues related to the marketing and selling of legal highs. He has acted as an expert witness to the courts since 1999.
He holds the largest UK database on drug prices and street purchase amounts for the most commonly used drugs in the UK including cannabis, MDMA, cocaine, ketamine, GHB and amphetamine. Dr Winstock currently works across a community drug and alcohol team and drug treatment services in HMP Brixton. He has provided training on expert witness courses run for the police in the UK. Dr Winstock also advises as an expert to government and international advisory bodies.
Qualified as a doctor (MBBS) in 1991, and obtained the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CSST) in general adult psychiatry and addiction psychiatry in 2001. Dr Winstock holds triple postgraduate qualifications in medicine (MRCP), psychiatry (MRCPsych) and addiction medicine (FAChAM). He also holds Bachelors degrees in psychology (BSc), a Masters Research degree in psychiatry (MSc) and a Doctor of Medicine postgraduate research degree (MD).
