Mr Avi Kulkarni is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, specialising in glaucoma laser treatments, cataract surgery, and glaucoma surgery, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). He is based at King’s College Hospital, London, UK (since 2009). He also operates a private practice at the London Clinic.
Mr Kulkarni has expertise in general ophthalmology, including the diagnosis and management of cataract and glaucoma, the causes of visual loss and the management of the ocular consequences of trauma.
With special interests in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma and related conditions. He regularly performs glaucoma and cataract surgery and glaucoma laser treatments.
Mr Kulkarni teaches and trains medical and optometry students, optometrists, orthoptists and junior ophthalmologists. He has given national and international lectures and provides clinical mentorship and educational supervision for junior ophthalmologists.
As the Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology, Mr Kulkarni has investigated adverse incidents, complaints and has overseen clinical governance matters for the department. This entailed responding to patients with Duty of Candour letters and undertaking root cause analyses for the Trust for amber and red adverse incidents where patients came to harm.
