Dr. Taffy Makaya

Dr Taffy Makaya is a senior consultant in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes with over 10 years' experience and she was appointed the Lead for the Paediatric Endocrine service at Oxford Children’s hospital in 2023. She has a strong clinical and research background and a passion for empowering other professionals to deliver high quality services. Dr Makaya holds a dual CCT in Paediatrics and Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology, is fully registered with the GMC and also holds a Licence to Prescribe.

Excellent relationship skills and attention to detail have been the key pillars on which Dr Makaya has built a successful clinically focused career to date. Throughout her career she has embarked upon a range of continual professional development, through both academic studies and contributing to research projects, volunteer Trustee appointments, and taking a very hands-on role with regards to empowering and growing individuals within the organisations she works in. Her experience includes several strategic change operations, including a focus on upscaling use of diabetes technology and adaptation of virtual clinic technology for patient review. 

Dr Makaya has participated in numerous pharmaceutical medical advisory panels. She has authored over 35 publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national and international conferences. She is also responsible for Clinical and educational supervision of post-graduate medical trainees, and appraisal of medical colleagues as part of the GMC revalidation process. Dr Makaya is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford from 2016 to date.

Dr Makaya has experience in the medico-legal field, providing expert opinion, advisory and  causation and prognosis reports. She has worked with both defendant and claimant teams. She has experience with counsel conferences and production of joint expert reports.
